Author Talk: D. Thomas Minton

Wednesday November 6 @ 18:30 - 19:30

Join us for an exciting author talk with Balfour-based speculative fiction author, D. Thomas Minton! With four novels and nearly 50 short stories published in top speculative fiction magazines, D. Thomas Minton’s work has been translated into five languages and frequently appears on recommended reading lists. His latest collection, The Memory Plague and Other Stories, is due out on October 28, and it’s available for pre-order at major online retailers.

At this event, Minton will read excerpts from his upcoming collection, which features stories that explore the far reaches of time, space, and the human experience, from dystopian futures to alien minds. Following the reading, there will be a meet-and-greet session with book signings. Books will be available for purchase, and Minton has kindly offered to donate a hardcopy to our library.

Please join us Wednesday Nov 6 at 6:30pm here at the library and don’t miss this opportunity to engage with an acclaimed author and delve into worlds beyond imagination!

The Memory Plaque: And Other Stories

Travel back to the beginning of our solar system, to the proto-Earth, to a battle for the future of humanity. Step into an alien mind as it struggles to understand why it has been abandoned on a dying planet. Dine on catastrophe cuisine while the tides of war threaten to engulf the world. Delve into the claustrophobic warrens of a dystopian wet-market, where a person’s worth is less than the sum of their parts. Often dark, sometimes darkly humorous, but always imaginative and deeply moving, these stories will take you to the edges of time and space and beyond.
Featuring alien artifacts, curious trans-dimensional mementoes, magical carousel horses, and more, this collection of twenty-four speculative short stories brings together the best of D. Thomas Minton’s explorations of reality, the universe, and what it means to be human.

D. Thomas Minton lives on the shore of a mountain lake in British Columbia, Canada, but still pines for the tropical waters of the Pacific Ocean. When not writing, he works as an aquatic biologist, helping to conserve important fish habitat (and the occasional coral reef). He is the author of the Calypto Cycle, a series of thrillers set in an alternate 1920s eastern Europe, and over fifty short stories, which have appeared in many of speculative fiction’s top magazines and anthologies. His fiction has been translated into several languages, and his stories frequently appear on annual recommended reading lists. He can be found online at dthomasminton.com.
