The Salmo Valley Public Library offers Internet access via wireless connection or use of one of 6 (2 are designated teen) public computers. There is no charge for this service. Advance bookings are available by phone or in person. The time limit is 60 minutes per session or at the discretion of the librarian.
Because the Internet is a global electronic network, it is not subject to federal/provincial control and thus is an unregulated medium. Although it allows access to a wealth of material that is personally, professionally, and culturally enlightening, it may also contain material that is inaccurate, controversial, offensive or even illegal. The library cannot control or monitor the vast amount of material accessible from computers and networks via the internet, nor will it censor access to these materials. Individual users must accept responsibility for determining suitability of content, and as is the case with other Library materials, restriction of a child’s access to the internet is the responsibility of the parent/legal guardian. As well, patrons should be aware that a degree of privacy risk is attached to the use of a library computer system.
Although every effort will be made by the Library to balance freedom of information with the protection of privacy, patrons use the library’s system at there own risk. Users are responsible for the sites they visit and any text or images they print.
